Eowyn and the Nazgul, by Tawny Fritz

I’ve wanted to paint Eowyn for years. She is one of my favorite characters, despite her mooning over Aragorn. She knew what she wanted to do, what she wanted to experience, and she didn’t let others tell her she couldn’t do it. She ended up one of, if not THE, biggest heroes in the entire story. Here is the final preliminary drawing of Eowyn for an oil painting I’m starting. I’ll record the progress of that painting as I go. Follow the progress, success or failure, by following me on Instagram and/or Facebook!

11″x14″, brown Prismacolor Col-Erase and General’s White Charcoal pencils on Strathmore toned tan paper.

@oneringnet event: favourite characters — éowyn

But no living man am I! You are looking upon a woman. Éowyn am I, Éomund’s daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.

A sword rang as it was drawn. “Do what you will; but I will hinder it, if I may.”

“Hinder me? Thou fool. No living man may hinder me!”

Then Merry heard of all sounds in that hour the strangest. It seemed that Dernhelm laughed, and the clear voice was like the ring of steel. “But no living man am I!”

#remember when eowyn thought legolas was aragorn’s boyfriend

the fact that it was supposed to be Aragorn and Arwen at first and that’s what Eowyn is reacting to and then they cut Arwen out of the Helm’s Deep battle and just replaced her with Legolas in every instance is one of my favorite facts about this movie

Very fair was her face, and her long hair was like a river of gold.
Slender and tall she was in her white robe girt with silver; but strong
she seemed and stern as steel, a daughter of kings. Thus Aragon for the
first time in the full light of day beheld Eowyn, lady of Rohan, and
thought her fair, fair and cold, like a morning of pale spring that is
not yet come to womanhood.

You have some skill with a blade. Women of this country learned long ago: those without swords can still die upon them. I fear neither death nor pain. What do you fear, my lady? A cage. To stay behind bars until use and old age accept them. And all chance of valor has gone beyond recall or desire.
